James Powell

  General Notes:

James fathered an illegitimate child with Mary Alexander (later the wife of John Knipe) on 22 November 1735 (See Consultations 25 November 1735) The child was disowned by John Alexander and baptised James Powell.
James asked to emigrate to Bencoolen with his wife and child in the Spring of 1736 following the scandal, but permission was withheld on 24 February 1735/36 until he had made some settlements. As there are birth records continuing it appears he did not go.

James married Sarah Alexander, daughter of John Alexander and Mary Maxwell, on 30 Apr 1734.¹ (Sarah Alexander was born on 22 Sep 1715 in St. Helena ^{1 2 3} and was christened on 13 Nov 1715 ¹.)
