bullet  General Notes:

The St Helena website (www.st-helena-coffee.sh/history.htm) states that an estate planted at Bamboo Hedge was probably started as early as the 1730s. GW Alexander sent coffee from this estate to London in 1839, and later to the Great Exhibition in 1851, where it was received to great acclaim. The flavour strongly hints of its Yemeni origins.

bullet  Noted events in his life were:

• Occupation: Farmer: Levelwood, St. Helena. 1 He is described as a farmer at the christenings of his sons, Frederick and John.

He was also recorded as a planter at the coffee plantation at Bamboo Hedge which was apprently started during the early 1730's. GW Alexander sent coffee from this estate to London in 1839, and again to the Great Exhibition in 1851, where the coffee was received with great acclaim.
