The Family Grave of Frederick George & Elizabeth West.

In loving memory of Elizabeth, beloved wife of Frederick George West who passed away 17th October 1903, aged 62 years. A loving wife, a mother dear, a faithful friend has left us here. Grieve not for her the lord doth take, but love each other for her sake.

Also Frederick George West, beloved husband of the above, who departed this life 31st October 1904, aged 59 years. Gone from us but not forgotten, never shall thy memory fade. Sweetest thoughts shall ever linger round the spot where thou art laid.

Also Arthur West, youngest son of the above, who was killed in action in France 28th August 1918, aged 37 years. Greater love hath no man than this that he lay down his life for his country.

In loving memory of my dear husband Frederick George West who passed away Nov 23rd 1944, aged 73 years. His lifes work well done, just fell asleep.

Frederick married Harriet Robinson, daughter of Serjeant Richard Robinson and Ellen McLachlan, on 27 Dec 1891 in New Congregational Church, West Ham, Essex.¹ (Harriet Robinson was born on 6 Feb 1873 in Chelsea Barracks, Middlesex, England ⁷ and died on 23 Apr 1912 in Hampshire County Lunatic Asylum, Fareham ⁸.)

The Church of St. Mary, built in 1830, is a small brick edifice of the Gothic then in vogue. St. Andrew's, built in 1870, from the designs of Mr. J. Brooks, is another brick church, but of an altogether different type. Large, unusually lofty, cruciform, it promises to be an imposing edifice; but left as it is incomplete, it can hardly be considered satisfactory, however much it may be in keeping with its surroundings.

The new Congregational Chapel in Balaam Street is a very ecclesiastical looking building.
