bullet  Noted events in his life were:

• Emigration: Arrived in South Africa from Courtrai, 1688, Cape of Good Hope. 4 Arrived in 1688 or 1689 as a French refugee / colonist. Hercules Des Pre - Du Pres, or Du Preez - Came from Cortryk or Courtrai, Flanders. He, his wife, Cecilia Datys (died on the farm "Soetendal" on 15-11-1720) and four children sailed in the 'Schelde'. The voyage probably took 4-6 months. They encountered two terrible storms and had to put into St. Jago, then again into Port Prayo. He arrived as a French Refugee and Colonist in 1689. On 18 or 19 April 1690 he received help from the Consistory of Batavia of £35 - 8 - 4, for himself, his wife and five children. In 1692 he was granted land and the deed was signed on 15-10-1697. His home was "Den Soeten Inval" - Paarl, where the railway station now stands. He died on 22-11-1696.

Hercules married Cecilia Dat˙s in 1667. (Cecilia Dat˙s was born circa 1650 2 and died on 15 Nov 1720 in Soetendal Farm, Drakenstein, South Africa 4.)
